日本落葉松（亦稱唐松、落葉松）是松科落葉松屬的落葉針葉樹，是日本的特有種，自生於中部、關東地方的山脈地帶（主要在八岳、淺間山、富士山周邊）。具有「落葉針葉樹」這一罕見特性，可欣賞春季淡綠色的萌芽、夏季鮮豔的綠色、秋季金黃色的變葉（黃葉）等四季變化。葉為短針葉，叢狀生出，相對於枝條柔和地展開。秋季金黃色閃耀的日本落葉松林被譽為日本阿爾卑斯山地區的絕景。在盆景中，落葉針葉樹的稀有性、四季變化以及成熟個體所具有的粗糙樹皮備受推崇。細密分枝的枝端纖細感與宏偉樹幹的對比是其魅力所在。管理理想上應在陰涼、日照充足的屋外進行，需要注意夏季的高溫多濕。澆水較為頻繁。新芽柔軟易受傷，春季需要注意強風。換盆應在芽萌動前的春季進行，每3～5年一次。
