歐洲捕蟲堇（Pinguicula vulgaris）廣泛分佈於北半球溫帶至寒帶，在歐洲、北亞、北美以及日本（北海道至本州中部以北）也有原生分佈。在日本，它生長於高山至亞高山的潮濕岩石地和濕地，植物體約5〜15cm大小。肉厚黃綠色葉上密生腺毛，能捕捉小果蠅、花粉等微小有機物。春至初夏開紫色花朵。冬季地上部分枯萎，以冬芽越冬。栽培需使用砂質弱鹼性至中性潮濕土壤，並維持涼爽環境。使用蒸餾水、雨水或軟水至微硬水。避免直射日光，適合明亮間接光。對高溫敏感，夏季管理困難。日本產野生個體禁止採集，應從栽培品取得。
