Dracula Orchid key facts
- Growing Difficulty
- Advanced
- Lifespan
- 10+ years
- Size
- 15-30cm
- Temperature
- 8〜20℃
- Light & Placement
- Native to highland cloud forest, it needs only low light. Avoid direct sun and keep it in bright shade with good airflow.
- Watering
- Never let the sphagnum dry out; keep it constantly moist. Humidity of 80% or more is ideal, so mist as well.
- Temperature & Overwintering
- It needs 8-20°C, ideally below 15°C. It is extremely heat-sensitive, so summer heat is a bigger problem than winter.
- Soil & Repotting
- Basket culture in sphagnum moss is the norm. Plant it so the pendulous flower stems can emerge outside the container.
- Pests & Cautions
- In Japan, air conditioning is a must in summer. Even at high humidity, stagnant air harms the plant, so always ensure ventilation.
