栒子是薔薇科栒子屬的常綠至半常綠灌木，廣泛分佈於舊北界（歐洲至東亞地區）。春季綻放密集的白色或淡紅色小花，秋冬季節，紅至橙色的小果實布滿枝條。其匍匐性強、長期保持紅色果實的特性是主要特徵。盆栽中，精緻的枝條與鮮豔的紅色漿果形成鮮明對比，是觀賞的重點，為秋冬季景色增添色彩。其匍匐習性適合製作懸崖式或半懸崖式盆栽，效果尤佳。小葉品種容易形成緻密枝條，經年累月後呈現老樹風韻。管理重點：喜充足日照，日照不足結果稀疏。澆水待表土乾後充分供水，避免過濕。修剪於花謝後及冬季休眠期進行，觀賞果實後整枝。移植於春季進行，每2～3年一次。
