火棘（有時也稱為常盤山櫨子）是薔薇科火棘屬的常綠灌木，分布於從西南歐至東南亞的廣泛地區。春季（5～6月）白色小花綻放枝頭，秋冬時節呈現鮮豔的朱紅色或黃色小果實密集掛滿枝條。如同英文名「火棘（fire thorn）」所示，枝條上有銳利的刺棘。常綠樹種全年保有葉片，即便冬季亦能長期保持鮮豔果實，具有極高的觀賞價值。在盆栽中，因能同時欣賞白花與紅（或黃）果，被列為受歡迎的「花果盆栽」。常綠濃密的綠葉襯托下，紅色果實為冬日的盆栽架增添風采。可造型成叢生、斜幹、懸崖等多種樹形。管理時偏好日照充足，光照越充分果實越豐盛。具有強剪定耐受力和旺盛的萌芽力，但若欲欣賞果實，則應在花謝後減少剪定。植換宜2～3年進行一次，春季為最佳時期。
