野茶花（夏椿）是山茶科野茶花屬（又稱為Stewartia屬）的落葉喬木，分布於東亞地區（中國、日本、韓國、寮國、緬甸、泰國、越南）。別名「沙羅樹」，在佛經中登場，被視為沙羅雙樹的化身，因此多被種植在古寺庭園中。在6～7月開出白色五瓣、清雅似山茶花的花朵。最大特色在於樹皮，灰褐色的樹皮光滑剝落，呈現白、灰、褐色混雜的美麗偽裝圖案。秋季紅葉也鮮豔地變為橙紅色。在盆栽中，花朵、紅葉和樹皮三者兼具的魅力樹種，但因根系厭惡移植，管理上略有難度。喜好從日照到半日陰的環境，在夏季強烈直射日光下容易發生葉燒。澆水應常保濕潤，切勿乾燥，夏季尤須頻繁澆水。換盆時需細心對待根系，約3～5年進行一次。
