大戟是大戟科大戟屬的植物，包含2000多個品種，是一個非常龐大的屬。其中許多種類都具有多肉化特徵，外觀與仙人掌酷似，從柱狀、球狀到獨特形狀的多樣性。原產地跨越非洲、馬達加斯加、阿拉伯半島、南北美洲等廣泛地區。多肉大戟的代表例子包括球形的「歐貝莎（E. obesa）」和三角形斷面的柱狀「鬼切丸（E. horrida）」。所有種類受傷後都會分泌白色乳液（乳膠），這種液體會刺激皮膚和黏膜，因此需要特別謹慎處理。喜歡日光，需要放在通風良好的地方。澆水應適量，不喜歡過濕，容易爛根。冬季需要保持最低氣溫5～10℃以上，但因品種而異。可以通過扦插或播種繁殖，扦插時需先沖洗掉切口的乳液。
