Adenium (Desert Rose) appraisal
A succulent of the Apocynaceae family characterized by vibrant flowers and caudex enlargement. Flower color and form variation and caudex form are evaluated. Grafted and seed-grown specimens have different characteristics.

What determines the price
Caudex thickness and form
HighCaudices that are rounded, substantial, and well-developed into bottle-shaped or spherical forms are valued. Wide-spreading, well-developed forms are popular.
Flower color and form variation
HighAbundant flower color variations—white, red, pink, and multicolor—directly connect to ornamental value. Plants with large flowers and vibrant color are valued.
Grafted or seed-grown
MediumGrafted specimens flower earlier but may show growth disparity between rootstock and scion. Seed-grown specimens develop caudices naturally from the base.
Health Status & Growth Vigor
HighLeaf luster, bud vigor, and caudex plumpness are health indicators. If the caudex is wilted or leaves are dropping excessively, condition assessment is needed.
Appraisal points
Confirm Caudex Form and Plumpness

- Good:
- The caudex has solid plumpness and displays a well-filled form.
- Caution:
- If the caudex is wrinkled or soft, it may indicate water deficiency or root problems.
Confirm health status
- Good:
- Leaves display luster and color, with buds opening vigorously. Growth momentum is strong.
- Caution:
- If all leaves have fallen (except during dormancy) or the caudex is wilted, condition assessment is needed.
Assess Root and Plant Base Condition
- Good:
- Roots are well-established, and the plant base is stable.
- Caution:
- If the plant base is rotting or roots are nearly absent, the condition is poor.
