A condition in which aquatic plant roots decay and plants decline or die due to anaerobic conditions developing within the substrate. Substrate clogging and prolonged lack of maintenance are common primary causes.
主要症狀
- Leaves yellow and die from the base, with roots appearing black and rotten when pulled
- A hydrogen sulfide odor (rotten egg smell) may be detected from the substrate
- Planted stems pull out easily with little or no root development
- Overall vitality of aquatic plants in the tank declines and growth stalls
主要原因
- Organic matter accumulates in the substrate, forming anaerobic zones
- Substrate becomes compacted and clogged, reducing water circulation within it
- Long-term substrate use leads to nutrient depletion and pH shifts
- Overfeeding or excess fertilizer causing eutrophication within the substrate
預防（栽培環境與日常管理）
Clean the substrate approximately once or twice a month with a gravel cleaner to prevent organic matter buildup. Plan to replace soil substrate roughly every 2–3 years, and choose substrate materials with particle sizes that resist compaction.
