象牙宫短茎是一种生长在马达加斯加中部高地标高1000-2000m岩盘上的小型象牙宫。以"惠比寿笑脸"的日文名而闻名，扁平盘状展开的独特块根形状是其最大特征。其自生地比其他象牙宫更凉爽，雾气较多的高地环境促使其进化出扁平的形状。直径比高度更宽，成熟株的直径可超过30cm。春季开放众多鲜艳的黄色花朵，其姿态让人联想到"笑脸"，因此得名。生长极其缓慢，是难以获得的稀有种。管理需要直射阳光，对高温高湿敏感。用土需超排水性，浇水应极其控制，特别要注意夏季的闷蒸。冬季断水，保持10℃以上。因其可爱的外形和稀有性，是多肉植物收集者中最受欢迎的品种之一。
