火棘（有时也称常绿山楂）是蔷薇科常绿灌木，分布于西南欧洲至东南亚的广泛地区。春季（5～6月）枝头开满白色小花，秋冬季开始结满鲜艳的朱红色或黄色小果实。顾名思义，英文名"Fire thorn"（火棘）表明其枝上有锐利的刺。常绿全年保持叶片，冬季鲜艳的果实长期保留，是观赏价值很高的树种。在盆栽中，既能欣赏白色花朵又能欣赏红色（或黄色）果实的"花果盆栽"很受欢迎。常绿深绿叶衬托的红果为冬季盆栽架增添色彩。可制作成丛生、斜干、悬崖等多种树形。养护喜阳，光照越充足果实越饱满。剪定强，萌芽力旺盛，但如要观赏果实应在花后控制修剪。换土每2～3年一次，春季为适期。
