Desert Agave key facts

Growing Difficulty
Beginner-friendly
Lifespan
Perennial (20-30 years)
Size
30-60cm
Watering
Minimal
Light & Placement
A typical desert plant that loves intense direct sun; giving it maximum light is essential. Keep it in a sunny outdoor spot.
Watering
Water very sparingly. It is extremely sensitive to excess moisture, so water only after the soil has dried out completely.
Soil & Repotting
It needs a very fast-draining mix rich in sand and pumice. Growth is extremely slow, so repotting every few years is enough.
Temperature & Overwintering
Very heat-tolerant, and fairly cold-hardy too, reportedly down to about -10°C. Keep it on the dry side in winter.
Notes
From desert, avoid humid environments
