About

Asplenium nidus, the bird's-nest fern, is an epiphytic fern widely distributed across tropical Asia, Africa, and Australia, where it grows on tree trunks and rocks in humid forest environments. In cultivation it is admired for its broad, strap-like, bright green fronds with wavy margins that radiate from a central rosette — resembling a bird's nest from above. Highly shade-tolerant and humidity-loving, it is one of the few plants that thrives in low-light, high-humidity environments such as bathrooms. The soil should be kept consistently moist, but water should not be poured into the central funnel of the rosette, as standing water there leads to rot. Misting the fronds regularly is beneficial. Wipe fronds periodically with a damp cloth to remove dust and maintain their natural lustre. Its bold, sculptural form brings an instant tropical feeling to shaded interior spaces.
