Scindapsus pictus, the satin pothos or silver vine, is a climbing aroid in the family Araceae native to Southeast Asia (from India to Indonesia). It is admired for its dark green, heart-shaped leaves dusted with satiny silver markings. Though it closely resembles pothos (Epipremnum), it is a separate genus, distinguished by its matte leaf texture and silver flecking. A vine reaching 1-3 m, it looks lovely trailing from a shelf or hanging basket. Shade-tolerant, hardy and fairly drought-tolerant, it is easy for beginners. It prefers bright indirect light, which brings out the silver markings most vividly; direct sun scorches the leaves. Water once the soil surface dries, avoiding root rot from overwatering. Somewhat cold-sensitive, so mind the minimum winter temperature.
