About this condition
A fungal disease characterized by brown to black spots on leaves that can merge and spread across the entire leaf surface. It tends to occur in warm and humid conditions.
Common symptoms
- Brown to black small spots may appear on leaves
- Spots enlarge into lesions with indistinct borders
- A yellow halo may appear around lesions
- Multiple lesions may merge, causing the leaf to die back
Common causes
- Hot and humid growing conditions
- Leaves remaining wet from direct watering or rain
- Fungal spores spreading via water droplets or wind
- Poor ventilation leading to stagnant humid air
Prevention (growing conditions & routine care)
Water at the base to avoid wetting leaves, and space plants adequately to ensure good airflow. Pay particular attention to ventilation during the humid rainy season and summer.
