Anthurium crystallinum is an evergreen perennial aroid from rainforest margins in Colombia and Panama, sometimes growing as an epiphyte. It reaches about 90 cm tall and wide and bears velvety, dark green, heart-shaped leaves with prominent white veins. The spathe is an inconspicuous pale green and pollinated plants produce red berries. It holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit. It is often confused with A. clarinervium and A. magnificum, which differ in size and leaf presentation. The species is widely used in hybridising, and many hybrids circulate, so check the stated parentage if you want the pure species. andraeanum, so it is not usually recommended for beginners. In Japan it is sold by specialist nurseries and online shops, sometimes distinguished by red-edged or red-stemmed forms.
