Anthurium regale
IntermediateAnthurium regale
An Anthurium with large, slightly velvety heart-shaped leaves marked by white midribs and lateral veins, which link around the margin and meet at the tip.
About
Anthurium regale is a terrestrial aroid from Peru, found in forest of the Huallaga valley in the Huánuco and San Martín regions. It was described in La Belgique Horticole in 1866 after Gustav Wallis collected it for the nursery of Jean Jules Linden. It belongs to the velvet-leaved section Cardiolonchium with A. crystallinum and A. warocqueanum. Its large cordate leaves are slightly velvety and show two or three orders of white veins: a prominent midrib, lateral veins and finer branches, with the laterals joining in a loop near the margin and meeting the midrib at the tip. The original description gives blades 30-40 cm long on petioles 30-35 cm long. Like other velvet-leaved anthuriums it needs bright indirect light, high humidity and an airy mix. In Japan it is mainly sold by specialist nurseries and is not common.

Water when the surface dries; constantly wet roots lead to rot.
Temperature & Overwintering
Temperatures in its habitat stay at about 15-27°C. Avoid sudden changes and keep it warm and humid indoors in winter.
Soil & Repotting
Use an airy, free-draining mix with bark chips or pumice.
