About
Philodendron 'Lemon Lime' is a foliage-colour cultivar of Philodendron hederaceum, the heartleaf philodendron, a climbing aroid native to Central America and the Caribbean. NC State Extension describes it as having bright yellow to chartreuse foliage. Whereas 'Brasil' of the same species has yellowish variegation down the centre of a dark green leaf, 'Lemon Lime' is bright yellow-green all over, so the two are easy to tell apart side by side. Pothos also has an all-lime cultivar, 'Neon', and the Japanese trade names are similar, so they are easily mixed up. Philodendrons show conspicuous stipules on new growth and have petioles without a groove, while pothos lacks obvious stipules and has grooved petioles, so check where the leaf stalk meets the stem. No reliable record of its breeder or introduction was found. Care follows the species: tough and tolerant of low light, though bright shade keeps the colour vivid. In Japan it is widely sold in small pots and as hydroculture plants.

The plant contains insoluble calcium oxalates; chewing it can cause mouth pain and swelling, drooling and vomiting (toxic to dogs and cats). Keep it out of reach of pets and small children.
