About

Cattleya trianae, the Christmas orchid and national flower of Colombia, is a large epiphytic species native to humid Andean foothill forests at 600–1,500 m. Plants grow 30–50 cm with robust single-leafed pseudobulbs. The flowers, 12–18 cm across, display white to pale pink petals contrasting with a large vivid purple-crimson lip; two to five are produced per pseudobulb in winter (December–February). Regarded among the most spectacular Cattleya species, it requires bright indirect light, temperatures above 15°C, and a moderate dry rest in autumn. A free-draining bark and pumice medium is preferred.
