素馨（黄梅）是木犀科素馨属的落叶至半常绿灌木，原产于中国。别名"云南素馨"。2～4月，在叶片萌出前的裸露枝条上依次开放鲜艳的黄色六瓣花。虽然花朵无香气，但冬末春初清澈的黄色花朵象征着春天的到来，自古以来就受到园林和盆栽爱好者的喜爱。枝条细长，呈弧形下垂，适合制作"悬崖"和"半悬崖"式盆栽。易形成丛生株，从多个主干下垂的姿态也很美丽。管理上喜欢光照充足的环境，但半阴处也能生长。耐寒性相对较强，在日本大部分地区可以露地越冬。浇水时应避免干燥，表土干燥后要充分浇水。花后立即进行修剪可以促进来年花芽的充实。换盆通常每2～3年进行一次，花后或春季是最佳时期。
