1Highland or Lowland?
Highland species require a notable day-night temperature drop (nights around 15–20°C), while lowland species thrive in consistently high temperatures of 25–35°C year-round. Confirming which category your plant belongs to before purchase is the most critical step. Keeping both types together is difficult, so starting with one group is recommended.
2High Humidity Is Essential
Nepenthes generally prefer humidity of 60–80% or higher. Low humidity inhibits pitcher formation, so using a terrarium or enclosed case makes management easier. When growing outdoors, the rainy and early summer season suits them well, but be cautious of intense direct sunlight in midsummer.
3Watering Depends on Substrate
Nepenthes roots are prone to rot under excessive moisture, so standing-water tray methods suit only certain species. Choose a well-draining substrate such as sphagnum moss, peat, or a perlite mix, and water thoroughly once the surface begins to dry.
