About

Sarracenia leucophylla, the white-topped pitcher plant, is widely regarded as the most ornamentally beautiful species in the genus. Native to the coastal plain wetlands of Alabama, Florida, and Mississippi in the southeastern United States, it produces tall pitchers whose upper portions are conspicuously white with intricate red-to-green venation—coloration that intensifies dramatically in autumn. The showy spring flowers are also large and attractive. Wild populations have declined due to habitat loss, and the species is considered vulnerable in parts of its range. Cultivation requires full direct sunlight for optimal color development, nutrient-poor acidic media (sphagnum or peat-perlite), tray watering with pure or rainwater only, and a mandatory cold winter dormancy. It remains one of the most sought-after Sarracenia in cultivation.
