About

Adenia pechuelii grows on rocky terrain in southern Namibia, belonging to the Passifloraceae family. The massive caudex, exposed prominently above the soil in gray-green to blue-green coloring, is one of the most spectacular in the entire caudex world—mature specimens develop caudex diameters of many tens of centimeters. The smooth surface and unusual color are highly distinctive. Thorny branches bearing small leaves emerge from the caudex. All parts are toxic. Growth is very slow and the species is extremely difficult to source, making large specimens extraordinarily rare. Intense direct sun and extremely porous soil are essential. Moderate growing-season watering and winter drought are correct. Somewhat frost-sensitive. The unparalleled caudex presence and extreme rarity make it the pinnacle of Adenia collecting.
