About
Pyrenacantha malvifolia grows in dry regions of East Africa including Kenya and Tanzania, belonging to the Icacinaceae family. It develops a flat to spherical swollen tuber from which climbing vines extend. Leaves are mallowlike in shape (malvifolia = mallow-leaved), relatively large and distinctive. The caudex surface is rough and textured with considerable visual character. The plant is dioecious. Growth is relatively fast and vines extend vigorously during the growing season. Full sun to bright partial shade with well-draining soil is appropriate. Generous watering during growth and complete winter drought are standard. Somewhat frost-sensitive.
