Sinningia leucotricha grows on rocky outcrops in Paraná state, Brazil, belonging to the Gesneriaceae family. Known as Brazilian Edelweiss, its defining feature is the dense covering of fine silver hairs on the leaves—an adaptation to reflect intense sunlight and reduce water loss. The caudex is flat to spherical, producing multiple stems. Tubular flowers in vivid orange to red are produced in spring and summer. Unlike many caudex plants, it grows in the warmer months and is dormant in winter. Bright indirect light to gentle direct sun is appropriate; intense sun causes leaf scorch.
