About
Vanda sanderiana, known locally as Waling-waling and considered one of the Philippines' national flowers, is a large epiphytic orchid endemic to Mindanao. Plants grow 40–80 cm and produce inflorescences of five to ten or more large, round-petalled flowers, 8–12 cm across, with pale pink to white lower petals and greenish-yellow upper petals marked with dark brown striping—a uniquely striking combination. It is one of the most important parents in Vanda hybridization, contributing large, round, colorful flowers to countless cultivars.
