About

Nepenthes ventricosa is a highland species native to the Philippines, primarily found in mossy montane forests of Luzon and a few neighboring islands at elevations of roughly 1,000–2,000 m. It is instantly recognizable by its distinctively rotund, barrel-shaped pitchers, which range in color from bright green to deep red depending on light conditions. The pronounced peristome ribs add to its ornamental appeal. Despite its highland origins, N. ventricosa adapts relatively well to cultivated conditions provided a moderate day-to-night temperature drop is maintained; optimal temperatures are approximately 15–28°C. It requires well-aerated sphagnum-based media, 60–80% humidity for reliable pitcher production, and pure or rainwater. Its compact size and attractive pitchers make it popular with growers of all experience levels.
