- Growing Difficulty
- Intermediate
- Lifespan
- 10-30 years
- Size
- 30-100cm
- Light & Placement
- Full sun is the rule. Give plenty of sun in the growing season to build the caudex, and keep it bright in winter to enjoy the flowers.
- Watering
- From spring to autumn, water thoroughly once the soil dries. After leaves drop in winter, withhold water and wait for the leafless bloom.
- Temperature & Overwintering
- Slightly hardier than A. obesum, but still frost-sensitive. Overwinter in a bright, frost-free indoor spot.
- Soil & Repotting
- Use an extremely fast-draining mix based on pumice and akadama. Repot in the growing season when the caudex fills the pot.
- Dormancy Care
- After winter leaf drop, keep it dry while it flowers. Once blooming ends and new growth starts, the growing season begins, so resume watering.
