About

Nepenthes singalana is a highland species native to the volcanic peaks of Sumatra, Indonesia, particularly Gunung Singgalang and adjacent mountains, at altitudes of approximately 1,800–3,000 m. It produces attractively rounded pitchers with red to deep purple coloration, highly sought after by collectors for their ornamental appeal. The species inhabits mossy montane grasslands and forest margins frequently shrouded in cloud. As a highland plant, it requires a significant day-to-night temperature differential in cultivation: approximately 18–25°C by day and 8–15°C at night. Sphagnum-based media with good aeration and humidity maintained at 70–90% are essential for reliable pitcher production. Among highland Nepenthes, N. singalana is considered moderately difficult to cultivate.
