About

Euphorbia cap-saintemariensis grows on limestone terrain at Cap Sainte-Marie, the southernmost tip of Madagascar, in a very restricted range. Its most distinctive feature is the uniquely wavy, undulating leaf margins that distinguish it from related species. A flat to spherical caudex supports multiple stems bearing these characteristic leaves. Flowers are small and inconspicuous. Damaged tissue exudes toxic white latex. Growth is very slow. Both the restricted natural range and slow growth contribute to its rarity in cultivation. Full sun to bright indirect light with extremely porous soil is appropriate. Restrained watering and complete winter drought above 10°C are essential. Its unusual leaf form and extreme rarity make it one of the most prized Malagasy euphorbias among specialists.
