About

Ceropegia woodii (String of Hearts, Rosary Vine) is a trailing succulent vine in the family Apocynaceae, native to rocky slopes and forest margins in South Africa, Eswatini, and Zimbabwe. Its slender, wire-like stems bear pairs of heart-shaped leaves with silver-green patterning on the upper surface and a purple underside. Small tuber-like aerial corms may form along the stems and can be used for propagation. The plant is widely grown as an ornamental houseplant, appreciated for its delicate cascading habit that makes it ideal for hanging baskets and elevated shelves. Bright indirect light is optimal; direct sun can scorch the leaves, while deep shade causes sparse foliage. Watering should be conservative, with the soil allowed to dry completely between sessions, as the roots are sensitive to waterlogging. Minimum temperature of 5°C is required. Propagation is by stem cuttings or aerial corms.
