Carrion Flower key facts

Growing Difficulty
Intermediate
Lifespan
Perennial
Size
10-30cm
Watering
Moderate watering
Light & Placement
Prefers a bright spot but avoid harsh midsummer sun. Its leaves are reduced and the stems photosynthesize, so position it so light reaches the whole stem.
Watering
Water about two or three times a month in the growing season and cut back in winter. The succulent stems store water, so keeping it on the dry side is fine.
Temperature & Overwintering
Keep it above 5°C in winter and overwinter it with sparse watering. During the cold months place it in a bright indoor spot.
Propagation
Easily propagated from cuttings. Cut a stem, let the cut end dry, then insert it into a well-draining mix.
Pests & Cautions
The large flowers attract flies with a carrion smell, so move the plant outdoors when it blooms. This keeps the insects it draws from coming inside.
