关于foliage plant

The foliage plant category on Bree-Choku lets you welcome plants that brighten daily life — Monstera, Ficus, Pothos, Sansevieria and more — directly from the growers. With few steps in distribution, you can check the plant's size, leaf condition, and root development before choosing. Pick a plant suited to your room's brightness and placement, one you can enjoy for a long time.

开始养护foliage plant前需要了解的7件事

  1. 1Match light tolerance to your placement

Foliage plants differ in the brightness they need. Many prefer bright shade or light filtered through a lace curtain, and strong direct sun can scorch leaves. Too dark a spot weakens them, so choosing a species suited to your placement is the key to long-term success.

  2. 2Water when dry and avoid overwatering

Overwatering is one of the most common causes of trouble with foliage plants. Water thoroughly once the soil surface is dry, and discard water that collects in the saucer. Constantly wet soil damages roots. Note that the drying pace shifts with season and placement.

  3. 3Know pot size and when to repot

When roots fill the pot, drainage and growth decline. Repotting into a slightly larger pot every one to two years keeps a plant vigorous. Spring to early summer during the growing season suits repotting, and replacing old soil with fresh keeps roots healthy.

  4. 4Watch for spider mites and scale insects

Spider mites and scale insects can appear even indoors. Spider mites thrive in dry air, so misting the leaves helps prevent them, and scale insects should be wiped off as soon as found. Regularly checking leaf undersides and bases and acting early limits damage.

  5. 5Plan temperature management for winter

Many foliage plants are tropical and sensitive to cold; in winter they can suffer from chilly windows or heater drafts. Minimum temperatures vary by species, so move plants to a warm spot indoors during the cold months and water sparingly to let them rest.

  6. 6Keep leaves clean and air moving

Dust on leaves hinders photosynthesis, so wiping them occasionally with a soft cloth keeps a plant healthy. Stagnant air also leads to humidity buildup that invites pests and disease. Move air with a circulator to create an environment where leaves grow well.

  7. 7Confirm the plant's condition and growing environment with the grower

On Bree-Choku you welcome plants directly from growers, so you can ask the seller about the plant's shape, leaf damage, root development, and the brightness it was kept in. Knowing the original environment helps ease the change when you bring it home and smooths adaptation.

foliage plant的常见问题

Q.Are there foliage plants that are easy for beginners?
A.Pothos, Sansevieria, and Zamioculcas tolerate dryness and low light relatively well and are considered beginner-friendly. Start with hardy species to learn a watering rhythm, then expand to other plants.
Q.How often should I water?
A.Rather than fixing a number of days, water thoroughly once the soil surface is dry. The drying pace varies by species, season, and placement. Always discard saucer water to prevent root damage from overwatering.
Q.The leaves are turning yellow — what is the cause?
A.Causes vary — overwatering, too little light, root-bound pots, or cold. Check the soil moisture, the brightness of the spot, and the roots in the pot in turn, and adjust whichever condition seems likely.
Q.When should I repot?
A.Roots showing from the pot bottom or poor drainage are signs it is time. Spring to early summer, when growth is active, suits repotting. Moving up one pot size with fresh soil helps roots stay healthy.
Q.Can plants die indoors in winter?
A.Many foliage plants are sensitive to cold and can weaken from chilly windows or dry heater air. Moving them to a warm spot and watering sparingly during the cold months helps them through winter.
