開始照料萬象前需要了解的7件事

1. 1Bright light, no harsh sun

   Bansho likes a bright spot, but strong direct sun can scorch the windows on its leaf tips. Light filtered through a sheer curtain, or bright partial shade, helps keep the windows clear. Too little light makes the plant stretch out, so make sure it gets enough.

2. 2Water only when dry

   Water thoroughly once the soil has fully dried out, until water runs from the drainage hole. Because it stores water in its leaves, keeping the soil constantly damp invites root rot. When growth slows, wait longer between waterings and give less.

3. 3Free-draining mix and pot

   A commercial succulent mix, or a blend with pumice and kanuma soil, drains well and suits this plant. The roots grow thick, so choose a pot deep enough to hold them comfortably. Unglazed terracotta dries faster and is forgiving while you learn how much water the plant wants.

4. 4Repot every 1 to 2 years

   Repot about once every one to two years to prevent crowded roots and tired soil. Spring or autumn, when growth picks up, is the best time. Roots can be slightly damaged during repotting, so wait a few days before watering.

5. 5Cool, airy summers

   Hot, humid summer weather can cause rot, so keep the plant in bright shade with good airflow. Growth slows then, so water sparingly and let the plant rest. Shade cloth also softens the sun and helps prevent scorched windows.

6. 6Winter: avoid frost

   Keep it away from frost and freezing, for example on a sunny indoor windowsill. Water sparingly and never leave the soil damp for long. If the windowsill gets cold at night, move the plant a little back from the glass.

7. 7Pick by window pattern

   Windows vary widely, from clear to opaque to netted, so check the photos and choose the look you like. Good signs are windows free of scars and discoloration, a tight rosette, and a base that does not wobble. Each listing is a different plant, so ask the grower about anything you are unsure of.
