Agave titanota 'Himeganryu' (Dwarf titanota)

Himeganryu (also written with a variant character) is a name used for small titanota types. According to a Japanese succulent encyclopedia, the name suggests a dwarf version of 'Ganryu', but in practice it seems to be applied loosely to the smaller 'Dwarf' or 'Compacta' types of titanota. There is also a claim that it refers to a Taiwan-raised hybrid, but no reliable source confirms it. It is therefore safest to read the name as meaning 'a small, compact titanota' rather than a particular clone. Offsets are often sold in batches, and tooth size and leaf shape can vary from plant to plant. Plants traded as titanota also include what has recently been described as A. oteroi, and the classification is not settled. In Japan small plants are readily available online and at auctions. Care is the same as for other titanota: strong light, good airflow and a dry regime keep the leaves compact and true to form. To keep it small, give it strong light and little water so the leaves stay tight.
