About

Nepenthes villosa is a high-altitude endemic confined to Mount Kinabalu and Mount Tambuyukon in Sabah, Malaysian Borneo, occurring between approximately 2,300 and 3,240 m elevation. The species name refers to the dense, fine hairs (villosity) covering the pitchers, leaves, and stems. It is especially celebrated for its exquisitely structured peristome—a wide, ribbed collar with prominent teeth arranged in precise, regular rows—widely regarded as among the most beautiful of any Nepenthes. The plant's extreme highland nature makes it one of the most challenging Nepenthes to cultivate, requiring daytime temperatures of 18–22°C and night temperatures as low as 5–12°C, with consistently high humidity. Most cultivated specimens are derived from seed or tissue culture. N. villosa represents the pinnacle of highland Nepenthes collecting.
