About
Euphorbia stellata grows on dry rocky terrain in southern Madagascar. True to its name (stellata = star-shaped), it produces a flat caudex from which thin, spine-like branches radiate outward in a star formation—a highly distinctive silhouette. Leaves are minute and the plant takes on a skeletal appearance during dormancy. Flowers are small and inconspicuous. Toxic white latex exudes from damaged tissue. Growth is very slow. Full sun to bright indirect light and extremely porous soil are appropriate. Its striking star-shaped form and rarity make it one of the most visually distinctive of the Malagasy euphorbias.
