About

Pachypodium bispinosum grows on dry, rocky terrain in the Eastern Cape of South Africa. Like P. succulentum, most of the caudex develops underground, with branching stems emerging at the surface. Bell-shaped pink to rose-colored flowers are charming and produced freely, creating a pleasing display during the blooming period. Being South African in origin, it is significantly more cold-hardy than Malagasy species. Full sun and extremely porous soil are standard. Moderate watering during growth and winter drought are correct. Brief exposure to frost is tolerated. The attractive bell-shaped flowers and underground caudex development make it one of the defining representatives of South African Pachypodium.
