About

Faucaria (Tiger's Jaw) is a compact succulent genus in the family Aizoaceae, native to the Cape Province of South Africa. The common name refers to the triangular, fleshy leaves borne in opposite pairs, their margins armed with soft, tooth-like projections that simulate the open jaws of an animal. Leaf surfaces are grey-green to green, often dotted with white tubercles. Mature plants are 5–10 cm across. Bright yellow, daisy-like flowers appear in autumn and winter, opening in sunlight and closing at night or on overcast days. Plants prefer full sun, which promotes compact growth and enhances leaf color and texture. Watering should be conservative, with the soil dried thoroughly between sessions and near-drought conditions maintained during the summer rest period. Cold tolerance is approximately 0–5°C. Propagation is by offsets or seed.
