About
'Opalina' is an intergeneric hybrid in the Crassulaceae. Grower descriptions give its parents as Echeveria colorata and Graptopetalum amethystinum, raised by the American breeder Robert Grim. The thick, smooth leaves are pale blue-green under a powdery bloom; in partial shade they stay bluish, while in brighter light the edges flush pink. The leaves stay rather upright within the rosette, another useful identifying feature. Rosettes can reach close to 20 cm across; growth is fairly quick and offsets form in clusters at the base. In spring slender stalks carry small yellow to orange flowers. In Japan it is sold by specialist succulent nurseries and garden centres, sometimes under an Echeveria label. Scholarly records of its origin and parentage are scarce; the details given here come from grower descriptions.
