Uncarina Roeoesliana
IntermediateUncarina roeoesliana
A caudex plant from Madagascar with large yellow flowers and characteristic sticky fruits.
About
Uncarina roeoesliana grows in dry forests of southern Madagascar and belongs to the Pedaliaceae (sesame) family. The trunk becomes substantially swollen with age, and the plant produces large, showy yellow flowers—among the most impressive in the genus. Together with U. grandidieri, it represents the premier flowering Uncarina in cultivation. Fruits bear characteristic hooked spines. Growth is relatively vigorous and large leaves appear during the growing season. Full sun, well-draining soil with good aeration, and generous watering from spring through autumn suit it well; near-complete drought after winter leaf drop is appropriate. Minimum temperature 10°C. The combination of large yellow flowers and swelling trunk makes it a beautiful ambassador for sesame-family caudex plants.
