Xerosicyos danguyi grows in the dry forests of southwestern Madagascar, belonging to the Cucurbitaceae family. Known as the Silver Dollar Plant, it is instantly recognizable by its thick, coin-shaped circular leaves with a waxy, silver-green sheen—exactly like a string of silver dollars. The stems are twining and emerge from a thickened, caudex-like trunk base. It is robust and relatively easy to cultivate, among the more forgiving caudex plants. Full sun to bright partial shade with well-draining soil is appropriate. Moderate watering during the growing season and winter drought are standard. Somewhat frost-sensitive but generally resilient.
