About
'Tippy' is a small Echeveria named for the red dab at each leaf tip. Triangular leaves form a rosette, accented by small red claws. A Japanese succulent reference says it is reputedly E. derenbergii × E. agavoides but notes other theories; its origin and parentage vary between sources and are not settled. The triangular leaves and restrained red tips recall derenbergii, and it is described as a long-clawed derenbergii: its leaves are longer and the tip more distinct than in that species. Confusingly, E. 'Beatrice', now known in Japan as 'Momotaro', was originally named 'Tippy' and renamed to avoid confusion. The two are easy to tell apart and are seldom mixed up now, but take care with older labels and references. Japanese references class it as a spring–autumn grower that, like most echeverias, dislikes humid summers and cold winter winds. Its compact size and colour accent make it a common component of mixed plantings, and it is sold by succulent specialists and garden centres in Japan.

Watering
A spring–autumn grower. Water when the pot is completely dry, keeping water off the leaves: thoroughly in spring and autumn, sparingly in humid summer heat, and in winter just enough to moisten the top third of the pot.
