Agave titanota 'Godzilla'

Godzilla is one of the 'named' selections sold as Agave titanota. A Japanese succulent encyclopedia lists it only as one of the titanota selections, and no source describes its leaf shape, teeth, raiser or history. Listings use both 'titanota' and 'oteroi', and some add 'Taiwan' to the name to indicate Taiwanese origin. Names with strong appeal tend to be given to similar-looking seedlings as well, so plants sold as Godzilla can differ in tooth size and leaf width. Rather than relying on the name, choose a plant whose parent stock can be traced, or check the shape and number of teeth, leaf width and rosette form in photos of the actual plant. Plants traded as titanota also include what has recently been described as A. oteroi, and the classification is not settled. In Japan it circulates steadily through online shops and auctions. Care is the same as for other titanota: strong light, good airflow and a dry regime keep the leaves compact and true to form. Its features take time to show, so small offsets are hard to tell from other named selections.
