About
Euphorbia waringiae is a small, deciduous caudiciform spurge endemic to the Esomony area of south-eastern Madagascar. Only one population is known and its range is probably very restricted; it grows in subarid shrubland at the foot of the mountains east of Esomony, under shrubs in stony red earth and on coastal dunes. Threats are habitat degradation, fire, clearing and collection for horticulture, and the IUCN Red List category is Vulnerable. The succulent caudex is partly buried, rounded and up to about 6 cm across. It produces thin branches armed with short whitish protuberances that grow 30 cm or more and lean to the sides; the plant reaches about 30 cm tall. Narrow leaves form tufts at the branch tips. The white to cream flowers appear from summer to autumn and keep blooming for several months. In cultivation it is slow-growing and cold-sensitive but can be kept in a pot indoors in light shade, with average water and feeding in the summer growing season. In Japan seedlings are sold through online shops and auction sites.
