1. 1Light and airflow

   A bright, well-ventilated spot with plenty of sun is the basic rule. With too little light the stems stretch and lose their tidy, ball-like clumps. Strong midsummer sun can scorch the stems, so moving the pot to bright partial shade during the hottest weather is a safe precaution.

2. 2Water sparingly

   Wait until the soil is completely dry, then water thoroughly until it runs out of the drainage hole. Constantly wet soil makes the roots and the base of the stems prone to rot. Water less often when growth slows down, and adjust according to how quickly the soil dries.
